Spanish Conquistador Miguel Lopez de Legazpi and the chieftain of Bohol, Datu Sikatuna, made a peaceful agreement to seal their friendship on March 16, 1565. “Sandugo”, which means a “one blood”, is what the two leaders literally did on that day. Legazpi and Sikatuna used a knife to cut a small portion of their wrist, add the blood to a wine and exchange the potions. Watched by the followers of the two leaders, the Blood Compact treaty is now a part of history and is a main landmark of Bohol.

Foreigners and local tourist enjoy the place for a few minutes to take pictures and rest for a while as they breathe the fresh air and watch the panoramic view of the area. Surrounded by lush greeneries of bushes and trees, the Blood Compact Shrine of Bohol is crowded at times especially if a huge group of students is in the place. If you are planning to visit the area, be sure to go there early in the morning to avoid the crowd.
